Se llama Verónica, pero a mi me gusta más Vero, Verito o Veruli. Cuando su mamá la reta, le dice Veroniquitaaaa.
Nació en Ushuaia, en una ciudad pequeña rodeada de montañas, mar y bosque. Es la última ciudad del mundo, lo más al sur que se puede ir antes de cruzar a la Antártida. Pero muy a pesar suyo, no vivió en iglús ni tuvo pingüinos de mascota. Hubiese sido divertido.
Tiene montones de años y ya le salieron canas y arrugas, pero le siguen gustando las mismas cosas de siempre: el chocolate, la nieve y mirar por la ventana. Como a mi.
También le gusta viajar y es nómade, que quiere decir que se lleva su casa a cuestas a donde sea que vaya. Conoció lugares loquísimos, que hasta ese entonces sólo había visto por la tele. Comió cosas muy extrañas, ricas y horrorosas (siempre vegetarianas), vió canguros, koalas, elefantes y unas arañas espantosas. Y charló en muchos idiomas, algunos inentendibles, y se hizo muchos amigos que todavía hoy conserva.
De sus mayores virtudes, destaco que nunca se aburre
(siempre encuentra algo para hacer), es especialista en adivinar cuánta comida entra en un tupper y experta iniciando aplausos en público. Su mayor logro fue en el Luna Park. Siempre encuentra el momento justo, esa milésima de segundo cuando todo está en silencio y no vuela ni una mosca.
Pero lo que más me gusta de Vero, es que se pasa el día dibujando y escribiendo en sus cuadernos. Yo también dibujo y escribo desde chiquita. Le encanta ir a las bibliotecas y hojear los libros ilustrados, sus favoritos. Algunos dicen que son para niños, pero ella dice que son para ella. Sueña con tener una biblioteca gigante, más grande que su propia casa, pero se conforma con los libros que entren en su valija.
Vero escribe imágenes y dibuja historias, y sueña con los niños y adultos hojeando sus libros, buscando los secretitos que le gusta esconder entre las páginas, inventando sus propias historias.
Vero es ilustradora y diseña libros, y cuando sea grande quiero ser como ella.

Her name is Verónica, but I like Vero, Verito, or Veruli better. When her mom scolds her, she calls her Veroniquitaaaa.
She was born in Ushuaia, a small city surrounded by mountains, the sea, and forests. It’s the city at the end of the world—the southernmost place you can go before crossing into Antarctica. Much to her disappointment, though, she didn't live in igloos or have pet penguins. That would have been fun.
She is "lots of years old" and already has gray hairs and wrinkles, but she still loves the same things she always has: chocolate, snow, and staring out the window. Just like me.
She also loves to travel; she’s a nomad, which means she carries her home on her back wherever she goes. She’s visited crazy places that, until then, she’d only ever seen on TV. She’s eaten very strange things—some delicious, some horrifying (always vegetarian, of course)—and she’s seen kangaroos, koalas, elephants, and some truly terrifying spiders. She has chatted in many languages, some of them completely unintelligible, and made many friends that she still keeps today.
Among her greatest virtues, I’d highlight that she never gets bored (she always finds something to do). She is a specialist at guessing exactly how much food will fit in a tupperware and an expert at starting public applause. Her greatest achievement was at Luna Park; she always finds the perfect moment, that split second of total silence when you could hear a pin drop.
But what I love most about Vero is that she spends her days drawing and writing in her notebooks. I’ve been drawing and writing since I was little, too. She loves going to libraries and flipping through picture books—her favorites. Some say they are for children, but she says they are for her. She dreams of having a giant library, bigger than her own house, but for now, she settles for whatever books fit in her suitcase.
Vero writes images and draws stories. She dreams of children and adults leafing through her books, searching for the little secrets she likes to hide between the pages, and inventing stories of their own.
Vero is an illustrator and book designer, and when I grow up, I want to be just like her.
